Thought Leadership: Management Portal

Just As The Longest Journey.........

    No serious management portal would be complete without resources dedicated to thought leadership. Just as the longest journey begins with a single step, so can the most far reaching changes begin with a single thought. Our thoughts are the key to actions that bring about change. It’s thus highly appropriate that these pages and links give attention to thought leadership. In this section we’ll bring together ideas that have helped shape the existing world of work, and those which are now starting to shape the future.

“Sow a thought, reap an act;

Sow an act, reap a habit;

Sow a habit, reap a character;

Sow a character, reap a destiny.”

Charles Reade

Plato and Aristotle

Value of a Good Manager? People Leave Managers not Companies

Improve The Wheel - Don't Reinvent It!

A happy manager is a thinking manager but it’s far too easy to allow work pressures to control or narrow our thoughts. Yet paradoxically, it’s often the fresh thinking that generates new ideas, leads to fruitful conversations, or results in better ways to work, helping us overcome the very pressures that stop us taking time out to think in the first place. What is shaping our culture and practice? Where do we get our ideas from? As managers where can we get fresh perspectives and insights? Finding time to address these questions is a constant challenge. And even if we find that time, how many managers can waste it filtering the mass of information around us, in search of items of real worth?

The Thought Leadership Management Portal contains a mixture of our own opinion pieces, researched articles, and access to a wide range of resources informing management practice. Hopefully you’ll find ideas which may completely change the way you think and act. You may also find reassurance, confirming your own ideas or intuitions, especially if these are new, radical, or challenging. Equipping managers with the latest skills, informing them of visionary thoughts, or encouraging them to innovate and experiment are key aims of this site, especially if these promote a happier working environment.

The plethora of ideas, books and articles currently available may make deciding where to start a difficult choice. Try using our Thought Leadership Resources And Links, referring you to our selection of “must read” sources. Or look at some of our articles, starting with The Value Of A Good Manager? People Leave Managers Not Companies, for some thought provoking discussion on what makes a happy workplace. Central to this site and especially this thought leadership management portal is the idea that Good Leaders Learn from the Best ; but why should that be so? Perhaps as Sir Isaac Newton said it's because you can see further on the shoulders of giants. In the business world, the best thinkers are often afforded the label “guru”. But who are the best?

One of the all time best is Peter Drucker, our article: Business Goal Setting Strategy; Using The F Plan, a six step guide to strategic planning for an uncertain future is based on some of his ideas. The article begins with a quote from this most prolific management guru of all. So why not seek some inspiration, insight or counter-intuitive thinking in our Peter Drucker Quotes: Wisdom From The Giant Of Giants. Be sure to come back to the Management Portal on a regular basis, to see how it grows. Or subscribe to our RSS feed for notification of updates as soon as they arrive.

Remember.......

“If I have seen farther than other men, it is because I stood on the shoulders of giants.”

Sir Isaac Newton
